WEEK OF: December 2nd - 5th, 2014

Reading - We will be starting our new story "Prudy's Problem" on Tuesday.  This story is an example of a fantasy.  We will be working on Drawing Conclusions and Questioning. 

Spelling - Our new list words are made up of Compound Words.  WE will take our pretest on Friday 12/5 and the final test will be the following Tuesday.

Grammar - We will be working on Irregular Plural Nouns when we return from break.  These nouns are the "rule breakers" - they do not follow the rules going from Singular to Plural form.

Math - We will be finishing up on Topic 9 Fractions next week.

Science - We will be working on Lesson 4 "How do plants use flowers or cones to reproduce? when we come back from break.

WEEK OF: November 24th - 28th, 2014

 

 

 

**Reading—We will be taking the Vocab/Story test for our story I Wanna Iguana on Monday 11/24 and the Skills Test on Tuesday 11/25.

**Spelling/Grammar—We will be working on a writing assignment next week.

**Math –We started Topic 9 Fractions this week and will be continuing next week.  We will start working on the 2 times tables and will take a timed test the week following Thanksgiving break. 

                           
**Science—We will continue to work on Chapter 3 Plants.  There are 3 more lessons in this Chapter.  Keep studying your vocab!

WEEK OF: November 17th - 21st, 2014

**Reading—Our new story is called I Wanna Iguana.  This is an example of Realistic Fiction.  The skills we will work on are Compare and Contrast as well as Visualizing.  We will be working on this story all week.  Tests will be the following week.

**Spelling – Our list is made up of words with the final syllable spelled consonant-le.  We will be taking a Pretest on Tuesday 11/18 and the Final Test on Thursday 11/20. 

 **Grammar – We are working on Singular and Plural Nouns next week.  We will be taking a Test on Friday 11/21.

**Math –We are finishing up Topic 5 The Meanings of Multiplication and will be reviewing on Monday and Tuesday for a Test on Wed. 11/19.  We will be starting on the 0 and 1  Multiplication Facts.  Students will be making flashcards, will be writing facts, as well as completing timed sheets at school and for homework.  We will be testing each Fact before moving to the next.  Memorization is the KEY to learning facts!  We will be skipping ahead to Topic 9 Fractions while we are memorizing our facts.  We will be starting Fractions on Thursday next week.

    
**Science— We’ve discussed how to classify plants in Lesson 1 and next we will be learning about photosynthesis.  We will be completing an experiment seeds next week observing how plants change.  Hopefully we have green thumbs in 3^rd grade!!

WEEK OF: November 10th - 14th, 2014

**NO SCHOOL MONDAY 11/10 due to an Act 80 Day.

 ** Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday.  Conferences will be held every 15 minutes and we have full schedules.  We ask that parents who have scheduled a conference please be prompt, so that we do not get backed up.  We appreciate your consideration for others time.

 **Reading—We will be testing our story Penguin Chick next week.  Vocab/Story test will be on Wed. 11/12 and the Skills Test on Thursday 11/13.

 **Spelling and Grammar—We will be working on writing a assignment next week.     

 **Math –We started Topic 4 The Meanings of Multiplication and will continue next week.  We are working on Repeated Addition, Arrays, and the Commutative Property of Multiplication.   Please continue to review basic facts.  We will be introducing basic Multiplication facts soon.    

 **Science— We will begin Chapter 3 Plants next week.  Some things we will discuss , and in this Chapter are how plants change, how to classify them, and how they make food.

**Reading—We will start our new story Penguin Chick next week. This story is an example of Expository text.  This type of writing gives facts about information about the real world.  The skills we will be working on are Main Idea and Details as well as Synonyms.

 **Spelling—Our new Spelling list next week.  The list consists of words with spelled v/cv or vc/v.  We will have a Pretest on Wed. 11/5 and the Final test on Friday 11/7.  

**Grammar—Common and Proper Nouns will be our focus next week.  We will identify nouns and determine the difference between common and proper nouns.  We will have a Test on Friday 11/7.

 **Math –We have completed Topic 3 Adding and Subtracting 3 digit numbers. The Topic Test will be on Tuesday 11/4.  Our next Topic will be The Meaning of Multiplication.  Multiplication is big part of 3^rd grade Math. With this topic we will discuss Repeated Addition and learn how to make Arrays to show multiplication. We will be starting to learn multiplication facts as well.  

**Science—We will be reviewing all week in preparation for our Chapter 2 Test on Friday 11/7.  Please study your Vocab and review the Design Process all week.
