You can practice your list words at the following Spelling City link: http://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=305481

* In Grammar, we are focusing on “Compound Sentences”. A compound sentence contains two sentences joined by a comma and a word such as and, but, or or. The two sentences that are joined make sense together.

* In Reading, we will have a selection test on our story, “ Boomtown” on Wednesday 10/2.  Our story is about the discovery of gold in California and how it brought new settlers with dreams of striking it rich. Some prospectors brought their families and everything they owned. The new settlers needed food, clothes, banks, and schools. In one short year, a town would rise where there had been only a field of wildflowers. We will focus on Realism and Fantasy. Realistic stories tell about something that could happen. A fantasy is a story about something that could never happen.

* In Math, we will have a quiz on Monday 9/30.  It will cover Lessons 2-1 to 2-4. We will review before the quiz. We will then continue covering Topic 2 Lessons 2-5 through 2-8.  We will have a test next week on all of Topic 2.
