December 16th - 20th, 2013

**In Reading next week we will be completing the End of the Unit Benchmark Test.  This will not be part of your child’s grade.  We use these tests to evaluate how your child is progressing in certain skills.

 **Unit Review Tests in Spelling and Grammar will be next Thursday;  12/19. Please review the topics and word lists. Students will bring home Spelling review list on Monday with list words highlighted.  Grammar review will be sent home daily in their red folder.
 

**We completed Topic 5 in Math today.  We will review on Monday and Tuesday and will take a Test on Wed. 12/18.   

 

**In Science we are finishing our Investigation of WATER.  We have found it to be an Amazing Earth Material.  We will take a short, open folder quiz on Wed. 12/18. Students will bring home green folder daily to review as well.

 

**Reward for Good behavior / Homework will be on Friday. Electronic Game Day is here again!!!! Since it went over so well last month we are going to do it again!!! Students can bring in electronics that they are responsible for on Friday 12/20.

WEEK OF: December 8th - 12th, 2013


Spelling– Our final test will be on Tuesday 12/10/13 this week.  We are working with list words that contain the consonant blends spl, thr, squ, and str.  Our list words are: splash, throw, three, square, throat, strike, street, split, splurge, thrill, strength, squeak, throne, strawberry, squeeze, squid, squander, arthritis, instrument, and strategy.   

 

Reading – In Reading, our story is “Top and Bottoms”.  This story is an animal fantasy is a story with animal characters that behave like people. Look for ways that Bear and Hare act like people.  We will be working on Reading skills Author’s Purpose and Predict. Our Selection test will be on Thursday 12/12/13. Grammar – In Grammar, we are still working with Singular Possessive Nouns.  A Singular possessive noun is when one person, place, thing, or animal owns or possesses something.  Add (‘s) to a singular noun to make it possessive. The dog’s bone; The girl’s doll; The boy’s car

Our test will be on Thursday 12/12/13.

 

 

Science – In Science, we are working on our next topic of our Water Unit – “Water Works”.

* In Grammar, we are working on Irregular Plural Nouns.  A singular noun names one person, place, or thing.  A plural noun names more than one person, place, or thing.  An “Irregular Plural Noun” does not add an –s, -es, or –ies. They do not follow the rules.  They create a new word or may not change at all.  We will have a Grammar test on Thursday 11/21/13.

Attention Parents / Students:  You can now access our Reading and Math Books online.  Students were given a 4 digit access code to enter the Pearson Math and Reading Website.  To access the site click on the link to the left, enter the students username and password.  You can view our Math book lesson and interactive video.  There are games, Math tools, and lesson videos that students can view to assist in homework.


* In Grammar, we are focusing on “Common and Proper Nouns”.  A common noun names any person, place, or animal.  A proper noun names a special person, place, or animal and begins with a capital letter.  We will have a Grammar test on Tuesday 10/26/13.

* In Reading, we are reading the story “Penguin Chick”.  This story is an example of Expository Non-Fiction.
