WEEK OF: September 29th - October 3rd, 2014

This week we are celebrating Homecoming Week and will end the week with a PEP RALLY. Each day we will celebrate a special theme.  Please see the list below:

Monday 9/29 - Construction Day (construction themed outfits)

Tuesday 9/30 - Dress up Day (Suits/ties, etc. for the guys, dresses, etc. for the girls)

Wednesday 10/1 - Favorite Team Day (Kids can wear jerseys, etc. from their favorite pro or college, etc. sports team)

Thursday 10/2 - Opposite Day (Kids can wear/do opposite of what they normally do--shirts worn backward, etc. etc.)

Friday 10/3 - Spartan Pride Day (Everything Red and Blue, Spartan shirts, etc.)

 

**Reading—We will begin our next story called Supermarket next week.  This is an example of Expository Text.  Expository Text describes real things and places organized by topics and using headings, illustrations, and captions to explain the features. The skills with this story are Compare and Contrast and Multiple meaning words.

**Spelling—The new list is made up of Long Vowel Diagraphs spelled ee,ea; ai,ay; oa,ow.  We will take a Pretest on Wednesday 10/1 and the Final test on Friday 10/3.

**Grammar—We will take a Quiz on all 4 types of sentences; Statements, Commands, Questions, and Exclamations on Thursday 10/2.

**Math –We will continue on with Topic 2 all about Adding and Subtracting next week.  We will focus on Rounding, Estimating Sums and Differences, and Writing Equations. 

**Science—We will begin the last lesson in chapter.  Lesson 5 is  How do scientists use tools and stay safe?  Continue to review lessons and Vocab when it is assigned.

WEEK OF: Septmber 22nd - 27th, 2014

**Reading—This week we began our new story Kumak’s Fish. We will continue working with this story and the skills Sequencing and Visualizing all week. We will take a Vocab Test on Thursday 9/25 and the Skill Test on Friday 9/26.  You can read with our story by clicking on the story title link on the left side of the HW helpline.

 **Spelling—We took our PreTest on Friday with the endings –ed, -ing, -er, and –est. Monday we will do corrections for homework and we will take the Final test on Tuesday 9/23. **The rest of the week we will work on a writing assignment during spelling.

 **Grammar—We will continue working  with Declarative and Interrogative sentences next week followed by Commands and Exclamations.  We will take a Quiz after we have covered all 4 types of sentences.

 **Math –Topic 2 is all about Adding and Subtracting.  We will take a quiz on Wed. 9/24 halfway through the Topic. Continue practicing basic facts, we will have a Timed Test on Friday 9/26.   

 **Science—We will begin Lesson 4 How do scientists communicate? next week. Continue to review lessons and Vocab when it is assigned.

Week of: September 15 - 19, 2014

Students brought home letters regarding our Pearson Reading and Math website.  Students can log on to the website and use resources from the website.  Students also brought home a letter regarding “Moby Max”.  Students can practice their Math and Reading skills through this site.  There is a link located on the left side of our HW helpline to access Moby Max.

 **Reading—We will continue with the story What About Me?  We will take a Vocab Test on Tuesday 9/16 and the Skill Test on Wed. 9/17.  We will start the next story called “Kumak’s Fish” on Wed.  You can listen to our story of the week by clicking on the Reading story Title on the left side of the HW helpline under Unit 1 Reading stories.

**Spelling—Our new Spelling list is made up of base words with the endings –ed, -ing, -er, and –est. We will start on Wed. and take the PreTest on Friday 9/19.  **On Monday and Tuesday during Spelling and Grammar times will be working on a writing assignment.

**Grammar—On Wed. we will start identifying kinds of sentences.  We will work with Declarative and Interrogative sentences.

**Math – We have completed Topic 1 Numeration and will review on Monday.  We will take the Topic Test on Tuesday 9/16 and begin the Topic 2 on Wednesday. 

**Science—Next week, we will begin Lesson 3 How do scientists answer questions?  Please review lessons and Vocab when it is assigned.

WEEK OF: September 8th - 12th, 2014

**FYI…. Please keep all papers in folders until we have completed the Story, Topic, and/or Chapter.  Students will empty their folders when we begin something new. Thank You!

**Reading—We’ve finished with our first story When Charlie McButton Lost Power.  We took our first Test on Friday nd will be going over it on Monday with students so they can get a better understanding of the new format.  This test will not count towards their grade.  We will start the next story, What About Me? as well as the skills of Sequencing and Compound Words

**Grammar— Our focus for next week is Sentences.  We will be identifying Fragments or Sentences.  We also will work on writing complete sentences.   We will have a Quiz on Friday 9/12.

**Spelling- Our new list consists of Plural words ending in –s, -es, or –ies.   We will have a PreTest on Wednesday 9/10 and the Final Test on Friday 9/12.  

**Math –  We will be continuing on with Topic 1 next week.  We will be working on Number Lines, Ordering Numbers, and Comparing Numbers.   Students will also be reviewing the 3 addition facts and have a One minute timed test on Friday. 

**Science— We will move on to Lesson 2 to try and discover what skills scientists use.  We will explore, make observations, and infer from our reading as well as experiments to come up with answers. Keep studying your Vocab.

WEEK OF: September 1st - 6th, 2014

**Reading—We will continue our story “When Charlie McButton lost power” We will continue to work on our new vocab, amazing words, and skill “Literary Elements” – character, setting, and theme. You can listen to our story by clicking on the link on the left side of the hw helpline.  Our Reading test will be Friday 9/5 and we will be taking it together so the students understand the new format of the Reading tests.

**Spelling—We will continue to work on our new list words with the VC/CV pattern.   The PreTest will be on Wednesday 9/3 and the Final Test on Friday 9/5.  You can practice our new list words by clicking on the Spelling City link located on the left side of the hw helpline.   

**Grammar—We are working on subjects and predicates.  We will have a quiz on Friday 9/5.   

**Math – Topic 1 is called Numeration.  We will be working on reading and writing numbers different ways.  Students are reviewing their addition facts and will have a 1 minute timed quiz on Friday9/5.
