* In Grammar, we are working on Subject / Verb Agreement.

The subject and verb in a sentence must work together, or agree. To

make most present tense verbs agree with singular subjects, add -s. If the

subject is a plural noun or pronoun, the present tense verb does not end in -s.

* In Reading, we will continue to work on our reading story “Pushing Up the Sky”.  Pushing Up the Sky is a play that is a myth.  A myth is an old story that tries to explain something about nature.  In our story, the Snohomish are an Indian tribe and believe the sky is too close. They all got together to come up with a plan to push up the sky.  We will focus on Author’s purpose and Compound words this week.  The author’s purpose is the reason an author writes something. An author may write to persuade, to inform, to entertain, or to express ideas and feelings. Your test will be on Wed. 1/30/13. You can listen to our story by clicking on the link below: http://pesfroghall.org/pushing%20up%20the%20sky.mp3

Our new story “Night Letters” is a realistic fiction story.  The main character Lily enjoys the creatures in her backyard.  She feels they are talking to her in a secret code and she writes what she observes in her daily journal.  We will focus on Drawing Conclusion in this story. A conclusion is a decision you reach after thinking about facts and details you know. You can use what you have learned in the story and what you already knew before you began to read.  You can listen to the story at the following link: http://pesfroghall.org/night%20letters.mp3
