What if you were TRAPPED in a Snowglobe?

**Reading – We will be continuing on with our story The Gardener.  We are planning on the Vocab Quiz on Wed. 1/29 followed by the Story Test on Thursday 1/30.   This is a realistic fiction story. In our story, our main character Lydia Grace goes to live with her uncle in the city when money gets tight at home. She helps in his bakery, learns to make bread, and makes friends there. Lydia loves to garden, and even though gardening space is limited in the city, she makes the best of what room she has. By the end of the story, she has transformed her uncle’s building with her passion for growing things. You can listen and read along with our story by clicking on the link below: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30012488/READING%20STORIES/UNIT%203%20STORIES/7-03%20The%20Gardener.mp3

**Spelling – We will not be starting our next list until the end of the week.

**Grammar – We will still be working on Verbs next week.  We will identify Action and Linking Verbs. Also we will recognize the 2 parts of a verb phrase, the Main Verb and the Helping Verb. The Quiz will be on Friday 1/31.

A verb is a word that tells what someone or something is or does. Action verbs are words that show action. Linking verbs, such as am, is, are, was, and were, do not show action. They link a subject to a word or words in the predicate. A verb phrase is a verb that has more than one word. The main verb shows action. A helping verb shows the time of the action.

·       The helping verbs am, is, and are show present time.

·       Was and were show past time.

·       Will shows future time.

·       The helping verbs has, have, and had show that an action happened in the past
