WEEK OF: MAY 6th - 10th, 2013

*Reading – We will be starting a new story “Jalapeno Bagels”. Our narrator is trying to decide what treat to take to his class at school. As he helps his parents make food items in the bakery shop, he goes over his choices. Able to draw from his mother’s Latin American heritage and his father’s Jewish heritage, he has an unusual array of choices. Our skill this week is Draw Conclusions ….A conclusion is a decision or opinion that makes sense based on facts and details

*In Grammar we are working on Adverbs …. An adverb is a word that can tell how, when, or where something happens. Adverbs tell more about the actions that are named by verbs. Adverbs can come before or after the verbs that they describe. Adverbs that tell how something happens or happened often end in -ly.

* In Spelling we will be working on the different way you can spell the /aw/ sound in ball.  Our list words this week are:  thought, fought, bought, taught, caught, walk, cough, talk, daughter, ought, sought, brought, trough, chalk, stalk, Challenge: sidewalk, distraught, afterthought, overwrought, and beanstalk
