**Reading – This week we will continue our story called “Night
Letters”. This story is an example of Realistic Fiction. We will work on Drawing Conclusions. In our story our main character Lily
loves to look at the critters and plants she finds in nature. When she looks
carefully at their fine details, she feels like they are talking to her in a
secret code. She writes what she observes in her nature journal. Our vocab quiz
will be on Wed. 2/12/14 and our Selection test will be Thur. 2/13/14. You can

**Spelling – Our
Spelling list consists of words with the consonant sounds of /j/ spelled ge or
dge and /k/ spelled ck or k. We took our pretest on Friday and everyone
completed their corrections. Final test
will be on Tuesday 2/11/14. You can practice your list words on Spelling City

**Grammar – We continue
to focus on Subject- Verb Agreement in Grammar.
Grammar quiz will be Tuesday 2/11/14.
The
subject and the verb in a sentence must work together. When the subject
and verb work together, they agree.
and verb work together, they agree.
- To make most present tense verbs
agree with singular subjects or he,
she, or it,
add -s. If the subject is a plural noun or I, you, we, or they, the present tense
verb does not end in -s.
Examples:
A snake slithers out of the grass.
More snakes slither out of the grass.
**Math – We will be
finishing up Topic 7 The Meanings of Division on Monday. We will review on Tuesday and take the Topic
7 Test on Wed. 2/12. The 3 Times Table
Timed Test will be on Tuesday 2/11. Keep
Practicing your tables!!!!
**Science – We will be
discussing growing plants without soil but instead in water and nutrients. This is called Hydroponics. The growing has begun in some third grade
classrooms while others are moving at a much slower pace and seem to have been
effected by all our snow days. Hopefully
we will see growth soon!!! This Investigation is short and sweet. We will be
observing the growth of our plants as we move on to other things in
Science.
**Music –
Students received their recorders from Mr. Lennox. Each student has a manila envelope to use for
music. Please check inside their
