WEEK OF: February 3rd - 7th, 2014

**Reading – This week we will be starting a new story called Night Letters. This story is an example of Realistic Fiction.  The skill we will work on is Drawing Conclusions.  In our story our main character Lily loves to look at the critters and plants she finds in nature. When she looks carefully at their fine details, she feels like they are talking to her in a secret code. She writes what she observes in her nature journal. **Spelling – Our Spelling list consists of words with the consonant sounds of /j/ spelled ge or dge and /k/ spelled ck or k. The PreTest will be on Wed. 2/5 and the Final Test on Friday 2/7. **Grammar – We will be working on Subject- Verb Agreement in Grammar next week. We will work on making verbs agree with the subjects in our writing.

• The subject and the verb in a sentence must work together. When the subject
  and verb work together, they agree.
• To make most present tense verbs agree with singular subjects or he, she, or it,
  add -s. If the subject is a plural noun or I, you, we, or they, the present tense
  verb does not end in -s.

Examples:

A snake slithers out of the grass.

More snakes slither out of the grass.

 

 

**Math – We have begun Topic 7 “The Meanings of Division”. We will be working through the lessons 3-6 next week.  This is a short topic so we will review on Friday and take the Test the following week.

**Science – We just completed Investigation 1 and are moving on to Investigation 2 Hydroponics.  With this we will be observing our plants growing in water and nutrients….no soil.  We will discuss the plant life cycle as well.
